My Dad died in 2014 as a result of many missed opportunities in healthcare, 3 delays in care and a misdiagnosis that ultimately took his life. As an RN in Texas for more than 20 years, it was like watching a plane crash. I couldn’t save him. I couldn’t wrap my head around what was occurring in healthcare and why the career I had loved for 20 years I was now embarrassed to be a part of. I committed to better educating myself On medical harm and preventable medical errors. Through my Dad’s death, I have found my purpose. Educating community members, families and patients on the importance of their role in the care of their loved ones is vital to their survival.
