Please describe what happened. Your story will appear on our website exactly as you have written it unless there is a problem, in which case we will contact you for clarification. I was in the hospital for a carotid artery operation for 2 days.I had my test on my carotid on Feb 8th and operation on Feb. 9th went home on the 10th. My husband was with me all 3 days and then picked me up on the third day. He got sick on Feb 17 with C def. At that time he was bleeding from his butt but didn't know what it was. I told him we had to go in to the ER, on Feb 19, and thank god we did. By then he was bleeding a lot, it was just poring out. Hospital staff didn't know what it was, and finally took a blood test and said it was C DEF. They said it was from antibiotics, I said he isn't on antibiotics. 3 time I had to tell them, Doctors and nurses it wasn't from antibiotics. They were trying to pass the blame on anyone but the hospital, and their negligence of not keeping the hospital free from C DEF. Finally after 2 or 3 days the Dr. and nurses told us YES he probably did get it there at the hospital. We are so upset because when the bill came for over 22 thousand dollars, ( our share is 885.00 ) with medicare insurance. We live on Soc. Sec. and now are responsible for 885.00. I don't think it's fair for us to have to pay for their negligence. They told us this happens all the time. And they keep making more money off people. I heard it's rampant all over. I don't want to pay this and yet I'm told we have too. He could have died from this as it was he had to stay in the hospital from 2/19 to 2/23, he went home on 2/24.

What was the outcome of the medical harm issue? Extended length of hospital stay
